گروه هوی متال/هارد راک معروف دهه هشتاد میلادی، در هانوفر آلمان توسط «رودولف شنکر Rudolf Schenker«، در 1965 میلادی پایه ریزی شد و پس از مدتی برادر کوچک «رودولف»، «مایکل (میشاییل)Michael» و سپس «کلاوس ماینه Klaus Meine«، خواننده گروه اضافه شدند.
آنها بیش از هر چیز بخاطر آهنگهای بسیار مشهورشان، «Rock You Like a Hurricane» ،»No One Like You» و «Wind of Change» شناخته می شوند. گروه در بیش از سی سال فعالیتش فراز و نشیبهای بسیار، جنجالهای فراوان و جابجایی اعضا را از سر گذرانده است. آنها در فوریه 2009 به خاطر یک عمر فعالیت هنری و حرفه ای، جایزه افتخاری ECHO Honorary Award آلمان را دریافت کردند.
«اسکورپیونز» آخرین اجرای خود را – تا به امروز- در دسامبر 2007، در میدان سرخ مسکو، در حضور «ولادیمیر پوتین» به نمایش گذاشت. جایی که اشاره های فراوانی در آهنگ «توفان تغییرات» به آن شده است.
